Please read Our Conditions before completing this form. Please note that we are small volunteer run charity, so it may take some time to get back to you, particularly in the case of litters of kittens for which we typically get a lot of applications all at once.

Adoption Process
If we have a suitable cat or kitten for you, then the next step in the process is a home visit. This can be done either in person or online, depending on what is most convenient for our volunteers. If all goes well, the next stage is to meet the cat(s) or kittens(s) at their foster home. If everyone is happy after this, then the fosterer may make arrangements with you to pick up the cat a few days later, once you have had time to get everything organised in your home. The adoption fee is payable via BACS or cash. Evidence of payment must be provided before you take the cat.
Do you agree to Bentham and District Pet Rescue contacting your vet for a reference if required?
Data consent
We will not share your details with any third party. If no cat adoption is forthcoming, we will delete your details from our database within 6 months unless you indicate otherwise.

Please be assured that we will hold your details only in connection with your query. We will not share this information with any other party without your consent.

OUR CONDITIONS

By adopting a cat, you will need to agree to the following conditions:

  1. To feed and house the cat to the satisfaction of Bentham & District Pet Rescue (B&DPR).
  2. To provide qualified veterinary treatment for the cat when necessary. [B&DPR will not be responsible for any veterinary treatment commenced once you have taken possession of the cat.]
  3. To permit an authorised member of B&DPR to visit your premises at any time to ensure the cat is happily settled.
  4. If, for any reason, the cat can no longer be kept, it must be returned to B&DPR unless a suitable new home is agreed beforehand.
  5. If, in the opinion of B&DPR, any of the foregoing are ignored, B&DPR has the right to repossess the cat.
  6. B&DPR cannot be held liable for any damage or injury caused by, or to, the cat once it has left our premises.

For each cat or kitten we re-home, there is a fee of £100 per pet.  If we are re-homing a pedigree or special breed cat, we will ask in the region of £150-£200. This is to reduce the risk of the cat being sold on for profit.

Payment can be by cash, cheque, or PayPal.

Before we agree to re-home a cat, we will ask to carry out a home-visit. Please read through the list of the points we normally discuss with prospective adopters and apply them to your own home.

HOME CHECKS – POINTS TO DISCUSS WHEN OFFERING A HOME TO A RESCUE CAT

  • Ensure the environment is safe and suitable for the cat being adopted
  • Advice, information & questions about your pet’s needs
  • The cat’s temperament/character/likes & dislikes/food
  • How to manage your new arrival, welcome plan, initial room/safe space, gradual introduction to new rooms and other pets
  • If you are adopting a kitten, you might consider using a dog crate – minimum 70cm x 90cm and 55cm in height to provide a safe and secure space for the kitten until it has become familiar with its new home
  • If you are adopting an adult cat, your new addition to the household must be kept in for 4-6 weeks to ensure they ‘know where home is’ before gradual accompanied exploration of the outside. Arranging the introduction to outside space around meal times can help
  • Consider the local area around your home and other cats in the neighbourhood
  • Keeping your cat in at night is safer and they are less likely to wander
  • Kittens/cats less than a year old SHOULD NOT BE LET OUT AT NIGHT or left on their own during the day (ADVISORY) – Cat flap options/chip activated cat flap?
  • Equipment – is all equipment available – bedding, bowls, litter tray, litter, food, toys, scratcher, etc.
  • Microchip registration/dual registration with BPR/ensure we have email address and alternative phone numbers for registration
  • Recommend the cat is registered with local veterinary practice as soon as possible
  • 5 weeks free Agria Pet Insurance information

Occasionally adoptions do not work out for a number of reasons. We therefore respectfully ask that the adopted cat is returned to Bentham Pet Rescue if things don’t work out.
